Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The AFA Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a resource for resolving problems through an international network of over 200 professionally-trained, peer support volunteer Flight Attendants overseen by mental health professionals. At Frontier we have 6 trained EAP Represenatives.  They assists members in accessing appropriate medical help around mental health issues involving family crises, work-related trauma and chemical imbalance, as well as conflict resolution services and response to critical incidents.

Our EAP Committee at Frontier was honored with the 2015 AFA Peggy Price award.  They assisted over 400 of our own Frontier Flight Attendants in 2014. The Ebola crisis was our biggest crisis last year and thanks to the efforts of our EAP committee members, we were able to assist with helping each one of our Flight Attendants affected by this crisis.

AFA EAP is one of the largest Union-sponsored member assistance programs in the industry. Other unions and associations often seek to model their programs on what AFA has so successfully implemented.

When faced with a loss in the workplace such as a death of a coworker, layoff or transition, it is natural to have feelings of grief, sadness, confusion, and anger. These feelings are normal reactions and actually aid in the healing process. This guide will not guarantee that dealing with your emotions will be easy, but it will assist you in recognizing the impact the loss can have on you and lead you to someone to consult with about how to deal with your feelings
I attended the annual AFA-CWA Employee Assistance (EAP) Chairperson meeting in Washington DC on June 9-12. I have served as the EAP Chairperson for close to 4 years and this has been my fourth meeting. Sixteen Chair people attended, including those who represent Hawaiian, United/Continental, Endeavor, Pinnacle, Piedmont, Alaska, Air Wisconsin, Horizon Air, Mesa, and Spirit Airlines. Our AFA International Director Heather Healey educated us on many of the changes that are coming regarding Mental Health, drugs and alcohol for our workgroup
In the recent months, our AFA EAP/Pro-Standards committee has been receiving numerous calls regarding harrassing comments to other members on Facebook. We understand that our company is going through tremendous changes and we have a lot of activity within our AFA union group. We are doing our best to address these issues as soon as they come to us. We never recommend reporting each other to management
Holiday Blues: What Are They? While the holiday season is usually filled with joy and excitement, the holidays can also trigger symptoms of depression and anxiety, commonly referred to as the “holiday blues.” People experiencing the holiday blues often feel down or sad, and don’t feel as though they are enjoying the season the way they normally do. Symptoms typically last less than two weeks, and affect more women than men. Many factors during the holiday season cause the holiday blues, including: - Time change and shorter days - Increased alcohol use - Overeating - Lack of sleep - Lack of exercise - Lack of time for oneself.
The holidays can be fun, but they also can be a source of great stress. Below are some common holiday stressors and suggestions for managing them. We are AFA, Get Involved!email clients. Email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser.
This time of the year is one of many transitions. Spring, arriving after a long, cold winter, being one of the most welcome ones! However, transitions can be challenging for many of us, and not all are joyful. If you are experiencing challenges in your life at work or away from work, your EAP team is a valuable resource. Various medical conditions have placed us under the care of a physician as well as, prescribed medications. Some of these medications can be used for conditions such as ADD, ADHD, thyroid conditions, etc. These prescribed medications can show a negative-safety concern result.
