Update 9/4/2010
Fellow Flight Attendants
The first phase of the election process concluded August 31, the nomination ballots will be tallied on September 10. As soon as we receive the results we will pass along the information. Thank you to all members who took the time to make your voice heard by nominating your choice for President and Secretary-Treasurer. Any member having at least two nominations and has verified a commitment to serve will be on the ballot.
The second step of this process will begin September 24, the date that AFA will mail out the voting instructions to all members. These instructions will detail your Voter Identification Number (VIN), and how to create your own Personal Identification Number (PIN). The PIN and VIN can be used for all future elections, so it is best to keep this information somewhere safe and private. Voting will be by telephone only, and the polls will be open September 29 through October 20. You may vote as many times as you like, but only your last vote will count. For example: September 30, you call and submit a vote for Candidate A for President and Candidate B for Secretary-Treasurer. On October 5, you have changed your mind on who you want to vote for President. You may call in and cast your vote for Candidate C for President and Candidate B for Secretary-Treasurer. This last vote is the only one that will count.
Also on the voting instructions will be a phone number to the AFA-CWA voter help line. Please don't hesitate to call with any questions you may have.
A few reminders…..
Please do not use company v-files for union related communication. If you have a membership application, please mail it to the AFA-CWA address printed on the top of the application. If you need to contact Kim or Erika, please call or email. Our contact information is on the bulletin board in the crew rooms and our website www.afafrontier.org. Also as a heads up, any co-mail correspondence is subject to search. If you are co-mailing anything to a friend at another domicile or station, it must be work related.
The first round of vacation bidding has begun, and bids must be submitted in Flica by 0900 September 15. Round two runs September 16-30. Please refer to the FA Handbook 65.00 pg 2-3 for all information regarding vacation bidding.
Please write up all discrepancies or issues you have. Nothing can be fixed if management isn't aware of the problem. We know it's not always easy or convenient to remember to write everything up, but with all the changes (especially recently in DEN catering) the appropriate parties need to know what is working and what isn't.
There have been many questions regarding the qualification for our 401(k) match. The rules state (and have always stated with Frontier) that an employee must work at least 1000 hours the previous year to qualify. Your AFA officers have asked the Benefits Department about this qualification. The company is working on the specific language for the qualification of our flight attendants. However, contrary to the rumors, it is not the hours flown that qualify you for the 401(k) match. Our hours are calculated very differently than other work groups, and the company is working on specific language that will spell out the qualification for our work group to be eligible for the match. Management should be sending out a memo soon as to what the specifications are for our 401(k) match qualifications.
In other airline news, the NMB announced the voting dates for a representation election at Delta/Northwest. They will be the first flight attendant group to vote under the new voting rules. We wish the best of luck to our flight attendant brothers and sisters at Delta/Northwest, and look forward to expanding the AFA-CWA flight attendant family.
We also ask everyone to support Kirsten Arianejad, a Compass Airlines flight attendant who was recently fired for publicly revealing that she qualified for food stamps because of her low salary at the regional airline. It is a shame that she has been fired for telling the truth. If you would like to help show support, please contact Compass MEC/LEC President Catriona Bagley at cbagley@afacompass.org. The Compass flight attendants have been very supportive of our campaign and progress with AFA-CWA at Frontier, and we'd like to return the favor in any way possible.
We want to hear from you! A survey will be going out a few weeks after the elections are over for your input on what you want in our contract. What are the important questions you want to see on the survey? Please email all suggestions to FrontierAFA@gmail.com.
Whether you're working or relaxing, have a safe Labor Day weekend. Thank you all for continuing to work hard and keep a positive attitude.
Don't forget, we are here for you. Feel free to contact us anytime.
In Solidarity-
